Faithful Navigator's Message

Faithful Navigator S.K. John Pozniak

October is a busy month for the Knights of Columbus. Our councils have membership blitzes, the annual MRP Tootsie Roll drive, and the annual Clergy Night on the calendar this month. While there are many activities going on, I'd like to remind everyone of the fundraiser dinner on Tuesday, October 21. If you bring a flier to the Chevy's Restauraunt on Almaden Expressway during dinner, the Assembly will recieve 25% of the total check. What an easy way to support Portola Assembly's many activities, simply taking the family out to dinner. Thank you in advance for your help with this activity. (Click here for flier)

I need as many members as possible to attend our business meeting on October 28 at Bishop O'Dowd Council's Santa Maria Hall. The Supreme Knight has asked every assembly to organize a "Get Out The Vote" effort, and we will be discussing our plans for the upcoming election. We also will be discussing our membership goals and what we can do to attract new members before the Fourth Degree Exemplification on February 4. Our business meeting begins at 8:00 pm, but please feel free to join us for dinner before the meeting. RSVP to me or to the Faithful Comptroller if you will join us for dinner.

The Supreme Council has asked every Knight of Columbus in the United States and their families to pray for justice, peace, and life with the Novena for Faithful Citizenship. The Novena is available as a podcast from faithfulcitizenship.org, a website published by the US Conference of Catholic Bishops. If you and your family are already praying the Novena, thank you. If not, the Bishops suggest begining the Novena on October 26, and continuing every day until election day.

The Knights of Columbus has launched a brand-new Internet-based news and information service for Catholics everywhere — Headline Bistro. The new Web site provides a quick digest of daily news of interest to Catholics. Whether it relates to world affairs, politics or news specifically about the Catholic Church, you'll find links to the original sources here. You'll also find video clips, detailed state-by-state information about voting and public policy, and recommended books. The Web address is headlinebistro.com.
