Portola Assembly 49 of the Knights of Columbus serves the communities of Diocese of San Jose. The Knights of Columbus is the world's largest Catholic fraternal organization, with over 1.7 million members world-wide. The Fourth Degree, the Patriotic Degree, form the most visible part of the Knights, with our distinctive Color Corps.
Members of Portola Assembly can be found performing many actions for the Church and the community. Our Color Corps is frequently seen as an honor guard for The Most Reverend Patrick McGrath, the Bishop of San Jose. Our members also present American flags to elementary schools in our community, while giving a program on patriotism to the children.
Knights are practical Catholic men over the age of 18, in communion with the Holy See. Members may join a Fourth Degree Assembly after the first anniversary of their First Degree if they have completed the first three degrees of membership in the order. While membership is restricted to men, we are a family organization with many opportunities for our wives and families to be involved in the assembly's events. If you would like to be a Knight of Columbus, or if you are a knight and would like to join the Patriotic Degree, please see our membership page.
Regular Assembly meetings are held the fourth Tuesday of the month at Bishop O'Dowd Council's Santa Maria Hall in Campbell. Meetings start with a social gathering at 6:30 PM, followed by a meal from 7:00 – 8:00, at which time the business meeting is called to order.
